Have you been waiting for what seems like forever for someone to make an ad that featured the Sir Mix-a-lot classic Baby Got Back with SpongeBob SquarePants. I think you know you have.
Well, your prayers have been answered. The always creepy King from Burger King has made it happen.
Now is there something wrong with bringing children’s programming together with such a raunchy - yet heartwarming - song? Probably.
But one thing is clear - you will watch it with an almost visible WTF? thought balloon over your head. But the bigger WTF? may be how this stuff gets through the grinding process of big corporate approvals to actually get on air. The King has changed the Burger King brand, made it a little hipper and quite a bit more weird. That’s not a bad thing. So props to their agency for getting it done.
Baby got back, indeed.

If you think of it, it isn’t the first time they have used this song and focused on children. One episode for Friends had both Rachel and Ross singing the song to Ema. Although everyone of their friends were a little shocked when catching them in the act, I’m sure several parents watching at the time had a good chuckle and then proceeded to sing the song to their very own children.
Albeit, when I first saw this ad I was surprised it was for Burger King of all things. Sure it is a little different, but not very memorable in that I first saw it last night and forgot about it until I read this post. Probably only to forget it after posting this comment.
I was shocked and surprised by this ad after we first watched it at work (though, I must say, I did find it hilarious).
However, I actually saw it on the Game Show Network today and surprisingly found it not half as funny or shocking. In fact, I’d have to agree with the previous comment from Randy and say that I would have immediately forgotten it if it hadn’t been for this blog post - funny how an ad in a different setting can have an entirely different impact on someone….
