I blinked and missed September

Friday, September 25th, 2009

I cannot believe that it’s almost the end of September. Every year as the summer months come to a close, and September rushes in, I am overcome by a feeling of new beginnings. A crisp new season, beautiful weather, and a fresh start to the year. It’s the same feeling I got every year when school began. (Yes, I enjoyed back to school time even as a child.)

But somehow, I had about an hour of that feeling and completely misplaced the month of September! I don’t know where it went. I even missed all of the back to school clothing sales! Well, I’m taking back the fall! I’ve fallen prey to those lame Old Navy commercials with the manequins and I’m going to buy some fall/winter sweaters this weekend…just to make myself feel new again!

And speaking of feeling new again, here’s a new song I’d like to pimp out - Relator by Scarlett Johansson and Pete Yorn. I have always like them separately, but who knew they were so great together! Can’t wait to get the entire album. New sweaters and new music..retail therapy - here I come.

Kodak and Social Media

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

Kodak has made a great little public document called ‘Social Media Tips’. It’s very much oriented to companies and marketers who are just getting their feet wet in the social media world.

View the Kodak Social Media Tips PDF

I particularly like their 10 basic tips:
1. Know what you’re talking about
2. Always be transparent
3. Be yourself (avoid ghost writers!)
4. Post frequently
5. Add value
6. Respond
7. Listen to what others have to say
8. Learn from your mistakes
9. Be external (link to others, re-tweet!)
10. Have fun

You’ll figure it out. Profing is always necessary.

You go, girl!

At left in the image below is Elspeth Arbow, daughter of one of our clients. She recently had a double-lung transplant, and during that process was able to meet Halifax’s Ellen Page. When Ellen was in Toronto for the TIFF, she called Elspeth up and invited her to the Whip It premiere. Elspeth said yes. Life Magazine took a photo. I’m getting all verklempt.

Seriously, why didn’t I think of doing this. Allow me to introduce the blog of unnecessary quotes. Awesome.

They Might Be Giants have put out another weird and wonderful CD for kids. If you loved “Here Come the ABCs”, I’m guessing “Here Comes Science” will be a must-add for your collection. Watch the amazingly graphic and beautiful music video for “Meet the Elements” here.

Designing the Perfect Beverage

We take design seriously, so I always love finding gems like Design Finds page of 30 Beautiful Beverage Package Designs.

I do find myself wondering, however, just how practical can it be to drink your water from a plastic mini mountain?

Mini Mountain Water Bottle

On the other hand, this design for a mini milk carton seems to be the best of both worlds — a solution more practical thank your average drinking box and far, far more beautiful as well.
