Olympic Winter Games Ads

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

The Olympic Winter Game coverage from Vancouver has sparked some interesting ads. Some good thinking from someone at Visa had a ‘Congratulations on your first gold medal at home’ ad in the can–ready to be played at the first commercial break following that event.

But perhaps the most perplexing ad, for me, is this one showing American athlete Phelps swimming his way through solid objects to the games in Vancouver–with the help of a Sub, of course.

Setting aside Subway’s attempt (and success) in angering McDonald’s, did anyone at Subway realize swimming is a summer Olympic sport?

“We’re just a group of like-minded people who want to raise the bar on what’s done in New Brunswick,” he said. “We don’t want to be the best agency in New Brunswick or in Atlantic Canada, we want to be one of the best in the world that just happens to be located in New Brunswick.

“We haven’t done a great job in expanding beyond our borders yet. That’s in our trajectory. Right now we’re doing great things for predominantly Atlantic Canadian-based clients. We know where we’re going, we’re just not there yet.”

We Were Foolin’ Of Course

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Yeah yeah, it was an April Fools. But Benedict (Mr. Arnold to those who don’t know him like we do) did live in Saint John. Our town is full of great history and great stories. Learn more from Tourism Saint John. Thanks for playing!

It also was an experiment in just how fast a message can spread. The relatively small group of Revolution employees threw a few messages at the internet using the tools Twitter and Facebook provided us, all asking in plain text for a simple click-through to a hosted PDF. Within 20 minutes the message had traveled as far as the UK and Austria, and within hours 211 people had clicked through to the PDF. The media made inquiries, and Revolution’s website saw a bump in traffic.

What can throwing a few well timed and well written messages at the internet do for your organization?

Spring, ahh spring. Okay, maybe not yet, but no need to dismiss the fact that this season’s colors put out by Pantone.com are fabulously fresh. Give them a try on your next project. I know this designer is super stoked for super lemon. Yum!

Design Edge Knows a Good Idea

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Design Edge Canada discovered the latest Super Hero to emerge from the creative halls of Revolution Strategy, and we’re not talking about our Christmas mascot Mr. Rubber McChicken.

Design Edge Canada is, in fact, talking about the illustrated character we created for Saint John Energy, Les Watts.

Local design agency Revolution Strategy has given Saint John Energy’s compact-fluorescent light bulb mascot, Les Watts, a bright new look
